I woke up today thinking: how can governments convince people to accept war?

I believe that the elements for making a war are resources, like money, and people that is not afraid to kill others. In order to obtain these things, leaders must convince entire populations that war is necessary. These can be done by making us think that certain humans should not be considered humans.

The fact of seeing a foreigner as something extraneous is very common may seem quite innocent. This is the key to make us think normally about wars. We believe that they do not concern us, because they are wars that affect something that is very far from us.

These are things that we are used to think.

People in that country people are superficial and violent. But those think that the others are primitive and ignorant. We believe those are all terrorists, and in these others live like animals, or are boring, or crazy!

I believe that the impression that we have on foreigners are just shades. I believe that there are a few things that are true about any people.

They are loving to their children. They have families and friends that care for each other. They like to laugh. They are friendly and have nice food. They like to learn and meet new places and persons. They have made mistakes in the past. They may not like or approve the current situation of their country, but have their look put in a bright and fair future.

Although I am pretty sure about these ideas, I have to accept something. This was not obvious for me until a very short time ago. The equality of all human beings is in theory an idea pretty easy to accept. It is amazing how usually we tend to think of non-human persons.

Finally, I have a wish for you. I believe that, when you realize that

that raped girl was you,
that intoxicated child was you,
that shot mother was you,
that brain-washed obese man is you,
that soldier laughing after killing 10 people is you,
that father leaving hometown so his family doesn't starve is you,

(and so many other thats, all consecuences of extraneous forces that are trying to erase in us all trace of humanity)

then your pain is less unbearable than it was for me.
